Q&A: Am I entitled to ZJCN Health Insurance?
If you received a decision (residence permit) from the Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND) then you can provisionally register for health insurance of ZJCN. Once you have received your sedula, you can register permanently.
If you are moving to Bonaire, Saba or St. Eustatius and you do not yet have a decision from the IND, it is important that you take out health insurance yourself as a bridging measure. This is to prevent you from being without medical insurance until you are (legally / officially) registered in the population register of the Caribbean Netherlands.
The date of issue of the decision of the IND is used as the commencement date of the health insurance BES. Healthcare expenses incurred by the insured person before that date cannot be claimed retrospectively with ZJCN.
If you are going to work for a Dutch Caribbean employer in the Caribbean Netherlands, you can be temporarily registered with the health insurance of ZJCN for three months on the basis of an employer's statement. Once you have your sedula or residence permit, you can use it to register for the period of validity of your sedula or residence permit. If this is still not successful within three months, you can visit the office of the ZJCN to request an extension of your health insurance. This extension is also valid for three months.
You can register as soon as you have received a decision (residence permit) from the Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND). The registration procedure with the IND can take up to six months.
You are required to register in the population register of the Caribbean Netherlands. Once you have registered, the Civil Affairs Department prepares a sedula (ID card) for you. As an insured person, you must always carry this sedula with you so that a healthcare provider can check whether you are registered in the insurance records. The healthcare provider can then charge the expenses for the healthcare provided directly to ZJCN.
