Youth protection
Sometimes parents receive compulsory assistance during the upbringing of a child. This happens when the problems in a family are very serious. And if the safety of a child is at risk. A family can also receive compulsory assistance if voluntary assistance does not help. Or if voluntary assistance is not accepted.
It may be that those around the child are seriously concerned about them. For example, the GP, a school-teacher or the neighbours. They can call in Youth Care. Youth Care can then submit a request for compulsory assistance to the Guardianship Council.
Only the court can determine whether a child should be placed under supervision. Sometimes a child (temporarily) needs to move to another address or foster family. This is far-reaching. Therefore, this only happens when it is safest for a child.
Of course, a family can always ask Youth Care for help themselves. If the situation is unsafe, do not wait! Seek immediate help if your family is experiencing:
- Domestic violence
- Abuse
- Neglect
- Sexual abuse
